Advanced Examination Date

Workington Amateur Radio Club will be holding an Advanced Exam Session on Monday 5th December 2016, starting at 7pm.

Assessment is by a written examination paper of 62 multiple choice questions each with four possible responses.

The examination lasts two hours.

For the Advanced Radio Communications exam there is a fee of £37.50. You must have passed the Intermediate exam before taking the Advanced.

Candidates who intend to sit the exam on Monday 5th December 2016 should complete the RSGB Candidate Application Form for Advanced Examination and post it along with payment to the RSGB using the address on the form. The club’s exam secretary must also be informed using the contact us page of this website by the 29th of October 2016. Please include your phone number in the message and confirmation you have sent the application form off to the RSGB.

From Monday 7th November club meetings will include tuition on the advanced examination. Advanced exams are now available on demand with one calendar month’s notice. Candidates will be able to take the exam in 2017. Future exam dates will be discussed as the training progresses.

Raspberry Pi primer

Next club meeting, the 18th July, will have an introduction to the Raspberry Pi. This little, cheap and versatile computer has been a British success story. The club has 2 of them, one runs the APRS iGate and the other is a server for the WebSDR.

We’ll run through the basics of where to get hold of one, how to load an operating system and how you can interact with them, including the dreaded command line!

Intermediate Exams

We are looking at running an Intermediate exam at the Helena Thompson Museum on the 6th June. If you’d like to sit the exam with us then fill in the contact form below and give us your details. We’ll need a form and a cheque from you for the exam fees no later than the 6th May so we can be assured there is enough time to get the papers sorted with the RSGB. No form and cheque means no exam I’m afraid.

Next Training Weekend Dates

We will be running the next set of training for both the foundation and intermediate level licences on the weekend of the 27th and 28th February. These are weekends that precede the regular club meeting where the exams will take place.

If you’d like to get involved with amateur radio and haven’t a clue then come along to one of our meetings and we can discuss your needs. Alternatively get ahead and download the correct form from the RSGB website here and forward to us or use the contact form below
